The Huckebein is a Banpresto originals mecha in the Super Robot Wars. It has appeared as a playable unit in 4th Super Robot Wars, Super Robot Wars F, Super Robot Wars F Final, the Alpha series and the Original Generation series until 2nd Super Robot Wars Original Generation. The unit will also reappear in Super Robot Wars V in its "Classic series" form.

Appearance

The Huckebein is a unit with a very humanoid design. It is based on various Mobile Suit Gundam mecha, and shares many design characteristics, such as the distinctive gold "V-fin" on the head, red chest cockpit, and red "chin". The Huckebein units are mostly designed by famed mecha designer, Hajime Katoki, who has designed many mecha for various Gundam series, and the only exception is the Mass Production Type Huckebein MK-II, which was designed by Hitoshi Kamemaru.

The name appears to be a reference to a troublesome raven named Hans Huckebein, the subject of an illustrated German poem made in 1867 by Wilhelm Busch.

Technical and Historical

The original Huckebein unit first appeared in 4th Super Robot Wars and later in the game remakes, Super Robot Wars F and F Final and it was one of two upgraded machines your original characters could obtain late in the game. It was made as a homage to the Gundam animated series and was piloted by one of the game's archetypes (according to Original Generation canon, the pilot would be Ring Mao). However, future incarnations of the Super Robot Wars series would shed more light on the Huckebein's origins. In the Alpha and Original Generation universe, the Huckebein is the first mecha to use Extra-Over Technology, alien technology found in Meteor-3. From the Extra-Over Technology, an experimental working Black Hole Engine was created. Mao Industries ended up developing two units using this new engine: the RTX-008-L Huckebein L and RTX-008-R Huckebein R. During the R unit's first testing, however, there was an accident with the Black Hole Engine, causing the unit to suffer a meltdown that dealt significant damage to the Technetium base located on the moon, and the destruction of the R unit itself. The incident resulted in the Huckebein earning the infamous nickname, Vanishing Trooper, and the L unit being sealed. The Huckebein's best weapon is its Black Hole Cannon, which uses the black hole reactor at its fullest. In the Original Generation games, the RTX-009 Huckebein 009 was created by reconstituting the 008's design with a standard Personal Trooper nuclear fusion reactor, rather than the Black Hole Engine. This would be fielded by Irmgult Kazahara.

Later, the 008 L would be handed to Earth Federation forces. In the Original Generation games, this Huckebein would be utilized by Irm as well. This unit would be upgraded into the RXT-008L-EX Huckebein EX, which would include some technology from the Huckebein MK-II as well.

The next unit in the Huckebein series is the RTX-010 Huckebein MK-II. This unit does not use a Black Hole Engine, and like the Huckebein 009, uses a nuclear fusion reactor. In Super Robot Wars Alpha, the two main characters the player chooses would receive the Huckebein MK-II. Later on, more MK-II units would be developed, but would lack the G-Impact Cannon, where the G is short for Gravity. In Original Generation, only three of these units would be developed. Brooklyn Luckfield would receive one of these units and later, Elzam V. Branstein would receive one painted in his "Trombe" colors (red and black). The MK-II is equipped with a Gravicon System, a gravity controller. The gravitational field spreads in front of this unit, and thanks to this, creates a defensive Gravity Wall. The MK-II can also be equipped with a T-Link System. The MK-II's cockpit is a jet fighter that can eject from the unit called a "Personal Fighter", the final one would be used by the Divine Crusaders and would be destroyed by the pilots of the Hiryu.

The RPT-010 Huckebein MK-II M is the mass production version of the MK-II. It uses a Gespenst frame for its design and does not use any special technologies, save for a Tesla Drive to provide flight, in order to keep production costs low, but it still outperforms the Gespenst MK-II. Various pilots have used this unit.

The next unit is the RTX-011 Huckebein MK-III. There were two units made: the RTX-011-R Huckebein MK-III R and the RTX-011-L Huckebein MK-III L. In the Alpha universe, this unit goes to the playable's chosen protagonist. In the Original Generation universe, Ryoto Hikawa is the one to use this unit. The MK-III uses Extra-Over Technology efficiently, thanks to newfound knowledge that would help harness it better. The purpose of this unit is to be practically a smaller version of the SRX, in terms of combat performance. It uses a Tesla Drive to fly and a Tronium Engine to power the machine. It is outfitted with many strong weapons, which includes a portable version of the Graviton Rifle. The MK-III, like the MK-II, has the Gravicon System, as well as the Personal Fighter system. It currently stands as the most powerful unit among the Personal Trooper series.

On a related note, the Huckebein MK-III can dock with either the AM Gunner or the Boxer Frame. See the "Related Machines" section for more information on these.

In Super Robot Wars Alpha 2, however, the MK-IIIs would be rebuilt, but be incredibly neutered in many ways to the point that the Graviton Rifle must be delivered via booster now. The reason is suspected to be that powerful items, like the Tronium Engines, were removed for the Aegis Project in Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden. This would include the MK-III L, piloted by Viletta Vadim, and the MK-III R (if Arado Balanga's route is played, he would pilot it). The MK-III R would be painted in Rätsel Feinschmecker's colors, after he receives it. In the Original Generation universe, the R unit was already handed to him for use.

Related Machines

The Sniper PT, a customized Hückebein Mk-II M belonging to a terrorist group, which was armed with a powerful beam sniper rifle. It housed a computer that has TC-OS combat patterns are based on stolen data from former School member, Ouka Nagisa , that make a boosted in performance. It would be destroyed by Latooni, Arado & Seolla in a combination maneuver. Seen in OG Chronicles ministory "Those to Protect, Those to Overcome".

The AMG-01 AM Gunner was originally going to be a flight unit for the Real Personal Trooper Type-1. It was later modified and built as a support craft unit for the Huckebein MK-III. It is armed with a multitude of G-Impact Cannons for maximum firepower. This unit, much like a fighter craft of sorts, has a cockpit on top for the MK-III to "sit in" which allows for quick combining and separating in battle. This forms the RTX-011AMG Huckebein MK-III Gunner.

The AMB-01 Boxer Frame is a module initially shaped like a giant sword. This was because it was originally meant to be the R-Sword for the SRX. It can transform into a man-machine type module that the Huckebein MK-III can fit into giving it larger arms and feet, as well as more thrusters for extra force. The codename for this unit is the RTX-011AMB Huckebein MK-III Boxer.

The Advanced Real Trooper Test Type-1, or ART-1, was built using data from both the Huckebein MK-III and the Real Personal Trooper Type-1. Instead of the tri-colors used by the R-Series, the ART-1 uses experimental colors similar to the Huckebein's.

There exists an AMS-01 Servant Frame, but only in the Alpha universe. However, this module would not be utilized by the Huckebein MK-III, but used to upgrade the AS Soleares into the AS Alegrías, instead.

In the anime Super Robot Wars Original Generation: The Inspector, the PTX-EX Exbein (a modified RTX-009 Huckebein 009) takes the place of the Huckebein MK-III L during its appearance at Mao Industries on the moon in Episode 8, piloted by Ryoto Hikawa and equipping both the AMB-01 Boxer Frame and AMG-01 Gunner Frame (simultaneously). Though the (Huckebein) MK-III was previously stated by Ryoto to have been cancelled, when Rätsel appears in Episode 9 at the Tesla Licht Institute, he is piloting the PTX-GT Guarbein MK-III Trombe, which is in fact the incomplete RTX-011R Huckebein MK-III Trombe combined with several components from Rätsel's DCAM-006VT Guarlion, and recognized as such by his opponent, the Inspector Vigaji. Later in 2nd Super Robot Wars Original Generation, all Huckebein units are destroyed by Amara Burton and her Galilnagant (an inspired Huckebein machine using Balmarian technology) and PTX-EXH Exbein "Ashe" was the unique "survivor" for upgrade into PTX-DEX EX-Exbein afterwards (and retconning Exbein's origin in the games)

The Pfeil III is based on the Huckebein Mk-II incomplete plans and It was obtained from defeated members of the Mobile Weaponry Development Test Squad during the Inspector Incident.

Specifications

Huckebein

The original Huckebein model. It has extremely high performances, thanks to its Black Hole Engine. Its main defence is its extreme speed and maneuvrability, so high that it gives it the possibility of creating a special effect known as "after-image", to confuse the enemy. Its "Black Hole Cannon" is one of the most powerful weapons ever mounted on a Personal Trooper, surpassed only by the "Ballistic Cannon" of the MK-III, when docked with the AM Gunner module.

Height: 19.8 meters

Weight: 60.4 tons

Weapon Systems:

  • 60 mm Vulcan Guns
Mounted in the head area are a pair of small-caliber guns.
  • Beam Saber
This is an high-powered beam weapon used for melee combat.
  • Magna Beam Rifle
This is a standard beam rifle for long range combat.
  • Remote Slasher
This remote controlled special weapon launches six devices from the mech's back which assemble into a disk-like device with beam cutters all around. The weapon then rushes to the target, striking it several times to deliver slashing damage. It is a very long range weapon.
  • Black Hole Cannon
This weapon is not self-contained in the mech, but is instead a large external artillery piece which is launched from a carrier or base at the pilot's request. (Similar to the Hyaku Shiki's Mega Bazooka Launcher from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam). The Huckebein then docks the cannon to its chest, connecting it to the Black Hole Engine, to unleash a devastating attack at extremely long range. The target of this weapon is effectively sucked inside a small scale black hole and crushed by the gravitational distortion.

Huckebein EX

This is basically the original Huckebein updated with parts from the later MK-II model. Its external appearance is changed to match that of a MK-II, but its performance is the same as the original model. It is painted in a deep-red color scheme.

Height: Unknown

Weight: Unknown

Weapon Systems:

  • 60 mm Vulcan Guns
Mounted in the head area are a pair of small-caliber guns.
  • Plasma Saber
This is a standard plasma beam saber for melee combat.
  • Photon Rifle
A standard rifle that launches off photon shots.
  • Remote Slasher
Even though this weapon retains the name of the one mounted on the unmodified model, it is actually a powered up version of the Chakram Shooter mounted on the MK-II model.
  • Black Hole Cannon Kai
The Huckebein EX relays the power from its Black Hole Engine to fire a single devastating blow from its cannon into the opponent. The Black Hole Cannon Kai module is modeled after the G-Impact Cannon, used by the Huckebein MK-II.

Huckebein 009

This mech is basically the original Huckebein, stripped of its Black Hole Engine, and equipped with a standard Personal Trooper nuclear fusion reactor. Even though its performance is roughly equivalent to the original model, it lacks the ability to use the Black Hole Cannon weapon. It is painted in a drab-green color scheme.

Height: Unknown

Weapon Systems:

  • 60 mm Vulcan Guns
Mounted in the head area are a pair of small-caliber guns.
  • Magna Beam Rifle
This is a standard beam rifle for long range combat.
  • Boosted Rifle
A standard rifle that launches solid rounds. Also used by the R-1
  • Remote Slasher
This remote controlled special weapon launches six devices from the mech's back which assemble into a disk-like device with beam cutters all around. The weapon then rushes to the target, striking it several times to deliver slashing damage. It is a very long range weapon.

Huckebein MK-II

This Huckebein is the prototype for the mass-production model. Its performance is far inferior to the original model, but still superior to a standard mass-production Personal Trooper. This Huckebein was also used as a testbed for new technologies, such as the T-Link System for Psychodriver use and the Gravity Wall barrier system.

  • Photon Rifle
A standard rifle that launches off photon shots.
  • Chakram Shooter
A small disk with explosive teeth, referred to as a "Chakram" is stored in the left arm. It is guided and reeled back by a wire. This weapon is referred to as the Chakram Caster in the English localization.
  • G-Impact Cannon
Lacking the Black Hole Engine of the original, the MK-II cannot use the Black Hole Cannon, thus this weapon was later developed. It is also a large external cannon carried by a booster, and grabbed by the Huckebein in mid air. The cannon then unleash a powerful gravity wave against the target. Its power is way inferior to the Black Hole cannon, but still a very powerful weapon.

Huckebein MK-II M

The mass production version of the Huckebein MK-II. It uses a slightly different, more streamlined frame and a different colour scheme; originally tan, and later dull blue. It has the same performance as the prototype, but lacks the advanced technologies, namely the T-Link System, the Gravity Wall and the G-Impact Cannon. It is equipped by default with a Tesla Drive system that allows it to have full flight capabilities.

Height: 19.7 meters

Weight: 47.4 tons

A standard rifle that launches off photon shots.
  • G-Railgun
This is a specialized railgun for long range combat.
  • Rectangular Launcher
This large launcher is a standard weapon among all Huckebein MK-II Ms. It is a fairly large cannon that fires off huge rounds.
  • Chakram Shooter
A small disk with explosive teeth, referred to as a "Chakram" is stored in the left arm. It is guided and reeled back by a wire.

Sniper PT

A customized Hückebein Mk-II M, used for long-range attacks. It was poorly armed, with just a beam sniper rifle. The onboard computer's TC-OS combat patterns are based on stolen data from former School member, Ouka Nagisa. The stolen combat patterns allow the PT to have advanced combat maneuvers that boosts its performance.

Height: 19.7 meters

Weight: 47.4 tons

Weapon Systems:

  • Beam Sniper Rifle
The only weapon of Sniper PT. A long, heavy beam rifle, used to take out Suits from afar. It has much higher output and better accurately than a standard Photon Rifle.

Huckebein MK-III

The latest and more advanced Huckebein to date. The speed, armor, and overall performance surpasses that of the original Huckebein, and like its predecessor, it's fully able to create after-images thanks to its extreme speed. It is equipped with all the advanced technologies tested on the MK-II, like the Gravity Wall and the T-Link System, but the most notable innovations are the Tronium Engine that powers it, the same one developed for the SRX Project, that gives it great power without the risk involved with the use of a black hole engine, and the ability to dock with external weapon frames. Unlike the SRX, which uses a separate pilot to regulate the dangerous Tronium Engine's output, the MK-III uses the T-Link System itself to regulate the engine's power, allowing it to achieve performance approaching the original SRX with a single pilot.

Height: 21.5 meters

Weight: 54.3 tons

Defensive System: Gravity Wall

Weapon Systems:

  • 60 mm Vulcan Guns
Mounted in the head area are a pair of small-caliber guns.
  • Roche Saber
This is a high powered beam saber for melee combat.
  • Multi-Trace Missile
There are missile launchers mounted on the pods on the mech back. The missiles can be fired to create an area saturation effect to hit multiple enemies at once.
  • Fang Slasher
These is a four-blade "wheel"-like weapon that gives off electricity. It is stored in the mech's left arm. It can be used as a manner similar to a shuriken for mid range attacks.
  • Graviton Rifle
The Huckebein MK-III carries a Graviton Rifle with it for using great firepower on any opponent. It is basically a scaled-down version of the G-Impact Cannon, smaller and much less powerful, but can fire more frequently as a result.
  • Graviton Rifle BST
The neutered version of the MK-III does not carry a Graviton Rifle with it. It must be launched via booster to reach the MK-III.

Huckebein MK-III Gunner Frame

This is the Huckebein MK-III docked with the AM Gunner Frame module. This configuration adds speed and increases the aerial capabilities of the mech, but the mech cannot land. Also, the use of melee combat is impossible in this configuration, which is intended for long range engagement. Note that the Huckebein and the AM Gunner can be launched separately and can combine and separate in mid-air at will during combat.

Height: 46.6 meters

Weight: 136.4 tons

Defensive System: Gravity Wall

Weapon Systems:

  • 60 mm Vulcan Guns
Mounted in the head area are a pair of small-caliber guns.
  • Multi-Trace Missile
There are missile launchers mounted on the pods on the mech back. The missiles can be fired to create an area saturation effect to hit multiple enemies at once.
  • Graviton Rifle
The Huckebein MK-III carries a Graviton Rifle with it for using great firepower on any opponent. It is basically a scaled-down version of the G-Impact cannon, smaller and much less powerful, but is able to fire more often.
  • Full Impact Cannon
On each wing are a pair of G-Impact Cannons, of the same kind of that used by the MK-II model. All 4 of them can be fired in unison to create a highly destructive gravitational wave, called the "Full Impact Cannon".This weapon even surpass the power of the Black Hole cannon of the original model. This weapon is called "Ballistic Cannon" in the North American release of the game.
  • Fang Slasher
The PSX Alpha version of this unit presented the four-blade "wheel"-like weapon that gives off electricity. It is stored in the mech's left arm. It can be used as a throwing cutting weapon for mid range attacks.
  • Gravity Ring
PSX Alpha version of this unit featured also a gravitational energy ring that compressed the enemy, crushing it.

Huckebein MK-III Boxer

This is the Huckebein MK-III docked with the AM Boxer Frame module. This module is intended for short range and melee land combat. In this configuration, the mech cannot fly, but the frame gives it more agility and lot of additional armor protection. The strengthened legs and additional armor can be used for devastating melee attacks. For gameplay reasons, this module must be docked with the Huckebein inside a base or carrier - during the G-Sword Diver attack, the MK-III can detach and recombine with the AM Boxer at will.

Height: 23.4 meters

Weight: 113.7 tons

Defensive System: Gravity Wall

Weapon Systems:

  • 60 mm Vulcan Guns
Mounted in the head area are a pair of small-caliber guns.
  • Fang Slasher
These is a four-blade "wheel"-like weapon that gives off electricity. It is stored in the mech's left arm. It can be used as a throwing cutting weapon for mid range attacks. With the Boxer Frame, the energy consumption of the Fang Slasher is rendered negligible, allowing it to be used freely.
  • Graviton Rifle
The Huckebein MK-III carries a Graviton Rifle with it for using great firepower on any opponent. It is basically a scaled version of the G-Impact Cannon, smaller and much less powerful, but is able to fire more often. In Original Generations, the Graviton Rifle is not carried while in the Boxer configuration, and is instead delivered via booster.
  • Catapult Kick
A giant kick attack is performed the feet blades of the Boxer Frame. Not seen in Original Generation 2, but made a part of the G-Sword Diver attack in Original Generations.
  • Geist Knuckle
The MK-III Boxer performs a set of punching attacks with the large arms to smash the target.
  • G-Sword Driver
The Huckebein allows the Boxer Frame to transform into the incomplete R-Sword, which it rides like a surfboard into the target. Gravity energy is concentrated into the blades for additional striking power. In Original Generations, the attack follows a Catapult Kick and a series of Geist Knuckles.
