The Giganscudo (ジガンスクード) is a Banpresto Original Mecha debuting in Super Robot Wars Original Generation. It was later upgraded into the Giganscudo Duro.

Technological And Historical[]

OG Series[]

The Giganscudo was originally developed by the Terra Federation as a giant artillery-based mobile weapon for stronghold defense. Its large size and array of powerful energy weapons essentially made it a minaturized battleship. It was built in anticipation of a possible revolt due to the NID4 independence movement among the space colonies in NAD 171, and was also called "Guardian of the Earth". However, its existence only served to further escalate tensions between the colonies and the Terra Federation. This culminated in the Hope Incident of NAD 172, when a group of terrorists hijacked the Hope colony and captured the Giganscudo, causing the Terra Federation Forces to open fire on the colony bulkhead in hopes of destroying the mobile weapon before the terrorists could use it, which resulted in the deaths of countless civillians (including the wife and child of Tempest Hawker). Thus, the Giganscudo became a symbol of hatred and resentment for the colonists.

Following the incident, the Giganscudo was sent as an escort for the state-of-the-art deep-space exploration ship Hiryuu in its first voyage beyond the Solar System, but the crew were met with an Aerogater attack consisting of numerous Megillot patrols in Pluto's orbit. Though receiving heavy damage and casualties, the Hiryuu and Giganscudo managed to retreat all the way back to Icarus Base located in the asteroid belt, before undergoing major repairs. With the threat of extraterrestrial hostile lifeforms now imminent, the Giganscudo had its quartet of Gigante Cannones replaced with large limbs, turning it into a humanoid mobile weapon. Tesla Drives were also added for further propulsion. Since this was only a makeshift modification to a mobile weapon preceding the proper development of Personal Troopers or Special Units, the Giganscudo's flexibility as a humanoid mobile weapon is low, but it excels in close-range combat and defensive capabilities thanks to its size and durability.

Its original form is more or less identical to the Shadow Mirror's

SRW OG1/SRW OGs1[]

The Giganscudo was modified and stored at Mao Industries' HQ on the Moon, where it was later picked up by the Hiryuu Kai when they visited the facility amidst the DC War. After being loaded on the battleship, the Giganscudo underwent final adjustments by Tasuku Shinguuji and Radha Bairaban, switched from a two-seater to a single-seater system through the installation of a standard Personal Trooper cockpit. When the Hiryuu Kai came under attack from Sanger Sombold's Grungust Type-0 siding with the United Colony Corps, Tasuku quickly sent the unfinished Giganscudo out to confront the Type-0's Reishiki Zankantou. The Giganscudo successfully defended the Hiryuu Kai from the ship-cleaving blade, even causing the blade to crack, prompting Sanger to retreat, though the mecha also received some damage itself (fortunately Tasuku only suffered from a few bruised ribs). The Giganscudo was then incorporated as part of the Hiryuu Kai/Steel Dragon Squadron's combat strength, all the way until the end of the DC War and throughout the L5 Campaign.

Some time before OG2, the Giganscudo was upgraded into the Giganscudo Duro. In OGs2, an additional dedicated stage detailing its upgrade event was included.

SRW OGs2[]

While completing the new Seize Anchor modules sent by Prof. Marion Radom, Tasuku and members of the Octopus Squadron were sortied out from the Hiryuu Kai to engage a group of DC remnants in space, encountering Murata and his Guarlion Custom "Mumyou". It should be noted that the Giganscudo deployed during this mission already had most of its bodily upgrades finished, and was only lacking the Seize Anchors to fully become the Duro. In battle, the Mumyou dealt heavy damage to the Giganscudo's Seize Shields, causing Tasuku to request for the Seize Anchors to be sent out from the Hiryuu Kai. The Giganscudo exchanges its Seize Shields with the Seize Anchors, becoming the Giganscudo Duro, and engages the Mumyou again, forcing Murata to retreat.

Armaments & Attacks[]

Armaments[]

  • G-Circle Blaster (G・サークルブラスター)

In OG1, this is a burst of energy originating from the Giganscudo expanding in a spherical area, damaging all enemies within the weapon's range. In OGs, the shoulder and knee armor sections open up to reveal emitters, generating a quartet of energy rings to be launched at the surrounding area. MAP Weapon.

  • Seize Shield (シーズシールド)

The Giganscudo's primary armament, a pair of gigantic shields mounted on the forearms, capable of being used for both offense and defense.

  • Gigant Knuckle (ギガントナックル)
Using its Seize Shields, the Giganscudo punches the enemy.
  • Seize Thunder (シーズサンダー)
Charging the Seize Shields with electricity and expanding their tips into claw shapes, Giganscudo crushes and electrocutes the enemy between the shields.
  • Giga Wide Blaster (ギガ・ワイドブラスター)

A powerful long-range energy blaster mounted on the chest. ALL Attack in OGs.

Solo Attacks[]

  • Gigante Uragano (ジガンテ・ウラガーノ | Giant Hurricane)

Giganscudo's ultimate attack. Generating an energy field in front of itself using built-in emitters on the shoulders, Giganscudo rams the enemy with its gigantic 70m-tall body at high speed. In OGs, the Giganscudo first punches the enemy a few times, then momentarily ascends upwards before crashing down on the enemy with the field deployed, smashing them to smithereens.

Special Equipment[]

  • Tesla Drive (テスラドライブ)

A device capable of separation between gravitational and inertial mass and provide spatial propulsion by spreading action points throughout a specialized T-Dot Array field. Standard equipment on many mobile weapons. Reflected in-game as the Giganscudo's flight capability.

  • AB-Field (ABフィールド)

Short for Anti-Beam Field. Beam-resistant field applied to the outer armor. More effective than the Beam Coat but consumes more energy. Reflected in-game as a Special Ability.
