R-2 |
The R-2, also known as the Real Personal Trooper Type-2, is a Banpresto Original Mecha from the SRW-exclusive series Chouki Taisen SRX, debuting in Neo Super Robot Wars. Part of the R-Series, it was later upgraded into the R-2 Powered. Its main pilot is Raidiese F. Branstein.
Technological and Historical[]
Part of the SRX Project, the R-2 was the second of the R-Series to be developed, a heavily-armored long-range artillery Personal Trooper that can provide support fire for allied forces, making up for its low mobility (though at the moment, the lack of the Plus Parts renders the PT's artillery capabilities nonexistent). For extra defensive capabilities, the R-2 is outfitted with a large Beam Shield on its left arm, as well as an I-Field Generator (Alpha)/AB Field (OG). The head section is installed with a Hybrid Sensor, as well as housing the R-2's cockpit due to the complex transformation system. The most important aspect of the R-2, however, is that it is loaded with the Tronium Engine that serves as the SRX's power source when combined, raising concerns regarding the Engine's unstable nature. Unlike its sibling units, the R-2 isn't installed with a T-Link System, as it was decided R-2's pilot does not necessarily need to be a Psychodriver, since their purpose in the SRX would be to maintain the Tronium Engine, monitor machine damage and check on the other 2 pilots' medical status. In the planning stages, the R-1 was supposed to conduct combination assaults with R-3 on the front lines, however due to the R-3/R-3 Powered being mostly stationed at the rear due to its precious T-Link System, the R-2 took its place instead, joining R-1 in coordinated attacks.
Super Robot Spirits[]
Following SRX's battle and eventual defeat against Judecca, the R-2 Powered received severe damage along with the R-3 Powered, leading to its Tronium Engine being transferred to the R-1 in order to make best use of it, creating the R-1 Kai. The R-2 would later be retrofitted with another reactor of unknown type and sorties to retrieve the stranded R-1 Kai, after the Super Robot Team had successfully defeated Judecca.
Super Hero Operations[]
Following the previous great war against the Aerogaters, the SRX was sealed away beneath the Gaia Savers Far East HQ, which included the R-3 Powered. It was called to action once more a year later to fend off Pandon's attack on the HQ.
Neo SRW[]
First appearance. Debuts in Earth Route Stage 10. The R-2, piloted by Rai, is first seen intercepting several Ze Balmary Empire mobile weapons near Mt. Ikoma, as the Daikuu Maryuu Squadron arrives to provide support. Joins the Daikuu Maryuu Squadron after the stage. After Earth Route Stage 19, R-2 will be upgraded into R-2 Powered. Does not appear in Space Route.
Alpha Series[]
In Alpha, the R-2 was additionally installed with nuclear jet engines in its legs, allowing it to hover over terrain.
SRW Alpha[]
In Real Route, the R-2 first appeared alongside R-1 and R-Gun Powered in Stage 9 to assist Londo Bell, as well as the Cybuster (having just emerged on the surface world from La Gias) to fight off General Garuda's Galmus squadron. R-2 and Rai's incorporation period into the Player Team depends on the Route chosen after Stage 20. If Eva Route was chosen, R-2 will appear in Stage 25 alongside the Super Robot Team to regroup with the Argama crew in Tokyo and fight off a Kikaijuu attack lead by Count Brocken. If Far East Sector Route was chosen, R-2 will appear in Stage 21 alongside the main hero's Grungust Type-2 to provide support for the Juusenki-Tai against Balmarian mobile weapons and Shapiro Keats. If League Militaire Route was chosen, R-2 will appear in Stage 26 along with other Londo Bell members to intercept the 6th Angel, Gaghiel. At the start of Stage 29, R-2 will be upgraded with the Plus Parts, becoming R-2 Powered.
In Super Route, the R-2 first appeared alongside R-1 and R-Gun Powered in Stage 5, when during a secret test run, the trio encountered the Super Robot Team engaging in combat with several Youma Empire mobile weapons. Despite Ingram Plissken's orders to maintain the secrecy of their mission, Ryuusei rushed in with the R-1 to provide support, prompting Rai and Ingram to enter combat as well. Later, in Stage 18, R-2 and R-1 will scramble to help the Photon Power Institute against a Kikaijuu attack lead by Baron Ashura, in order to buy time for the deployment of Mazinger Z's Jet Scrander. After the battle, Rai and R-2 returns to the Far East Branch HQ for a separate mission. Similar to the Real Route, R-2 and Rai's incorporation period into the Player Team depends on the Route chosen after Stage 20. At the start of Stage 29, R-2 will be upgraded with the Plus Parts, becoming R-2 Powered.
OG Saga[]
The R-2 was developed by Mao Industries using data from the PTX-004 Schutzwald, inheriting the concept of a long-range artillery Personal Trooper.
SRW OG/SRW OGs1[]
The R-2 made its debut after the DC War, during a test run on Izu Base, where it engaged in a mock battle against the ATX Team, specifically against Excellen Browning's Weissritter. Just before the Aerogators' first invasion wave on Earth (Stage 30), the R-2 was equipped with Plus Parts and became R-2 Powered.
Armaments & Attacks[]
Armaments[]
- Head Vulcan Cannon (頭部バルカン砲 | Toubu Vulcan Hou)
Two rapidly firing machine guns mounted on the R-2's head. They're not very effective on Personal Troopers and similar sized enemies, but they're good for destroying small fighters and ground targets.
- Beam Shield (ビームシールド)
A large beam-emitting shield is mounted on the R-2's left forearm for protection.
- Beam Sword (ビームソード)
A beam sword for close combat. Added in Original Generations as a swappable weapon.
- Magna Beam Rifle (マグナ・ビームライフル)
A special beam rifle which fires beam energy stored within HEGC bullet cartridges. It has increased power compared to other beam ranged weapons. In Alpha, it is said to be the basis for the Huckebein Mk-II's Photon Rifle.
- Wired Beam Chakram (有線式ビーム・チャクラム | Yuusenshiki Beam Chakram)
A wire-guided beam-emitting chakram disk stored within the right forearm container. The weapon's design also allows it to be used for other purposes such as restraining. It was originally meant to be a T-Link controlled weapon, however since it was decided that the R-2's pilot will be a non-telekinetic, it is guided by wire.
Solo Attacks[]
- Round Chakram (ラウンド・チャクラム)
The R-2 hurls the Wired Beam Chakram around itself, damaging surrounding targets. Only seen as a MAP attack in Alpha.
